Classroom Policies

Discord Policy:

All students would be required to join the Heroes Academy (H.A) Discord server. The server is aimed at extending the learning community online and providing more mediums for the contact between H.A staff members and students alike. While on the server, be respectful to all users, staff, and moderators. H.A has a zero-tolerance policy for harassment, sexism, racism, bigotry, xenophobia, and any other disrespectful behavior. Inappropriate content shall not be posted in any channel. Please keep all memes, comments, images, videos, and/or usernames professional and appropriate within the server.

The server will be used to send messages, advice, questions, and more between staff and students in the class. Therefore, no spamming of any kind will be tolerated. Please be patient for a response in the discord channel.

Each channel in the discord server has a predetermined purpose. Students should make sure they are in the appropriate channel for all the concerns, comments, or questions they may have.

The same rules apply to the voice channels on our server as well. In addition, when on a voice channel, students should minimize the background noise and mute their microphone unless they are speaking.

Class Policy:

Each virtual class will be held via Zoom. The link and password to the Zoom meeting will be posted in the appropriate Discord channel before each class. Students should sign into class at least 5 minutes before it begins. The Instructor will begin class at the scheduled time on the syllabus.

The H.A has a zero-tolerance policy for classroom disruptions. All questions and comments from students should remain respectful to one another and to the Instructor. Students’ virtual backgrounds should not distract any of the other students. Students are only allowed to unmute themselves when they are speaking directly to the Instructor. Before unmuting, students should use the raise hand function and wait to be called on by the Instructor. While students are encouraged to use the meeting’s chat function, spam and inappropriate content will not be tolerated.

Only students with their virtual cameras on will be allowed to attend class. If a student does not turn their virtual camera on after being instructed to do so, then the student may be removed from the meeting.

Any other violation of the policies may also remove the student from the Zoom meeting. Continuous classroom policy violations may result in being removed from the H.A Discord server and the class entirely. If a student is experiencing any technical difficulties, please inform the Instructor or another H.A staff member immediately.

Recording Policy:

All instructions, documents, and work products created by the Heroes Academy are copyrighted intellectual property. As a result, no recording or duplicating of any kind is permissible. This includes audio recordings, video recordings, screenshots, and screen recordings. Do not share any links provided to you with anyone outside the H.A.

Violating this policy may potentially result in legal action.

Privacy Policy:

The sharing of others’ personal information (such as, but not limited to: grades, test scores, and/or personal finances) without their consent would result in immediate removal from the class and Discord server.

Attendance Policy:

Students who are absent are still responsible to complete all assignments on time and not fall behind in class. An absent student may reach out to the instructor to find a time during the week to make up the missing hours. The instructor would only provide a makeup session if the student has a valid excuse for missing class. A medical emergency/treatment is a common example of a valid excuse.

Assignment Policy:

All assignments are due 12 hours before the class that they are assigned to. All assignments must be submitted in the appropriate google form. The link to the google form will be shared and pinned on the H.A. Discord server. Please do not post any questions regarding specific questions from an assignment until after the class the assignment is due for.

Contact Policy:

The best and most efficient way to contact us for support is through the H.A. Discord server. Please reach out to us for anything you need.  For concerns that require more immediate attention, please call us at the numbers provided on our website. For problematic situations between students or with a H.A. staff member, please contact the Instructor. The class syllabus provides the best information to contact the Instructor.
